Thermaikos Run 2025: Seaside Racing Along the Thessaloniki Coast

The 5th edition of the Thermaikos Run took place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, starting from Plateia Eleftherias in Peraia, Thessaloniki. Organized by the Municipality of Thermaikos, this popular community race has become a beloved fixture on the local running calendar.

The Course

The competitive 14km course runs along the flat coastal road of the Thermaic Gulf, from Peraia through Neoi Epivatai to Agia Triada. The seaside route offers stunning views of the gulf and is completely flat — making it perfect for runners chasing fast times. A 2.1km walking category was also available for those wanting a more relaxed experience.

Community Spirit

What makes the Thermaikos Run special is its community atmosphere. It is not just a race — it is a celebration of the local running culture in the southern suburbs of Thessaloniki. Families, beginners, and seasoned runners all come together for a day of sport by the sea.

The Night Half Marathon

Peraia also hosts the Thermaikos Coastal Night Half Marathon — the "Antonis Matzaris" memorial race — held in the spring. The 2nd edition took place on March 15, 2025, starting at 20:30 from the Wellness Santa Hotel. These two events make Peraia one of the most active running communities in the Thessaloniki metropolitan area.
