Athens Authentic Marathon 2025: Karaiskos and Noula Triumph Again
The 42nd Athens Authentic Marathon delivered another unforgettable day on November 9, 2025. Over 24,000 marathon runners and 70,000 total participants from 126 countries descended on the birthplace of the marathon distance for one of the most iconic races in the world.
Men's Race: Karaiskos Claims Second Title
Greek runner Panagiotis Karaiskos crossed the finish line at the Panathenaic Stadium first, winning in 2:20:10 to claim his second Athens Marathon title. Kostas Stamoulis followed in 2:23:24, with defending champion Babis Pitsolis completing the podium in 2:24:02.
Women's Race: Noula Makes It Two in a Row
Matina Noula dominated the women's field for the second consecutive year, finishing in 2:39:27. Giota Vlachaki came second in 2:49:31, and Rania Rebouli rounded out the top three with 2:52:07.
The Course
The classic 42.195-kilometer route begins near the Marathon Tomb and follows the path that Pheidippides allegedly ran in 490 BC. The course is famously challenging with significant uphill sections between kilometers 10 and 31, before a fast descent into Athens. Runners finish inside the magnificent Panathenaic Stadium β the same venue that hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
A Global Celebration of Running
With athletes from 126 countries and over 50,000 participants in the 10K alone, the Athens Authentic Marathon continues to grow as one of the world's premier running events. The weekend festival included 5K, 10K, and marathon distances, making it accessible to runners of all levels.
The 43rd edition is scheduled for November 2026. Registration typically opens in spring β check the race page on MyRaceRadar for updates.
