Alexander the Great Marathon Thessaloniki 2025: 14,800 Runners Flood Northern Greece
The 19th International Marathon "MEGAS ALEXANDROS" (Alexander the Great) took place on April 6, 2025, with a total of 14,800 runners flooding the streets of Thessaloniki and surrounding municipalities.
The Route
The marathon course passes through the municipalities of Pella, Chalkidona, Delta, Kordelio-Evosmos, Ampelokipoi-Menemeni, and Thessaloniki. The route traces a historic path through Northern Greece, finishing on the Thessaloniki waterfront with views of the Thermaic Gulf and the iconic White Tower.
Race Categories
The event offered multiple distances: the full 42.195km marathon, a 10K race, and a 5K fun run. The 5K was won by Kyriakos Voulgaris of GAS Ilissos in 15:36. The diverse distance options made the event accessible to everyone β from elite runners chasing marathon records to families enjoying the 5K atmosphere.
Growing Year After Year
Described as "the largest sporting celebration in Northern Greece," the Alexander the Great Marathon has grown steadily since its founding. With nearly 15,000 participants, the 2025 edition was the biggest yet, establishing Thessaloniki as a major destination on the international running calendar.
